Site Background

A Petrochemical Plant Jetty piles were under Cyclic Immersion in sea water which was affecting the load bearing capacity of the Jetty and the strength of the piles was deteriorating day by day.

Solution Provided

To address this problem and keep the port working, we retrofitted the jetty piles using Pile jacketing Technique with our Underwater Epoxy Grouting System.

Timeline for Completion of Work

6-8 Months (Including Surface Preparation to Final Grouting process)

Materials Used

  • RELINFORCETM Pile Jacket
  • RELINFORCETM UW (Under-Water) Putty
  • RELINFORCETM EP Pile Grout

Application Process

  • We monitored the high tide and low tide timing while working and calculated the working hours for underwater sections of the piles. The retrofitting of these underwater sections of the piles was done only during the low tide hours.
  • Surface preparation and other mechanical work was done for done for each and every pile before starting the jacketing and underwater epoxy grouting process.
  • These surface prepared piles were first jacketed up to the recommended height using the RELINFORCETM Pile Jacket.
  • Once the jacket was fixed at the desired underwater sections of the piles, the lower end of the jacket was closed using the RELINFORCETM UW Putty and mechanical clamps.
  • Now the gaps between the pile jacket and the pile was filled using the Epoxy based high density RELINFORCETM EP Pile Grout material with the help of specialize injection grouting machine.
  • This Epoxy based high density free flowing RELINFORCETM EP Pile Grout flows within the pile and jacket gaps, dispersing the water from the jacket.
  • The dispersed RELINFORCETM EP Pile Grout cures underwater within a very short period of time.
  • Let the Grout cure overnight underwater.
  • Remove the external mechanical clamps applied to the jackets if required.

  • Successfully executed the very first Underwater Grouting Project in India using our in-house developed system.
  • RELINFORCETM provided faster repair than conventional methods, the repair work was completed within 8 months timeline.
  • Jetty was fully operational during the repair process. Full shutdown is not required.
  • The systems used in this process have excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments which will impart more life to the Jetty piles.
